Why did you need to pass a swimming test to graduate? Seems like a very odd requirement
Indeed. I went to a woman’s college in Baltimore that, at the time it was founded in 1885, believed all women should be able to do everything men could do, to include swimming.
As a senior, I was doing poorly in Spanish (also required to graduate), and my Filipino friend swam like a rock. It was a win-win deal, we both graduated 🙂

Well of course women can do anything men can but that doesn't mean they should have extraneous graduation requirements. Regardless, glad both of you graduated :D

It was part of the PE requirement, I’m fairly certain it’s no longer a requirement. It’s also no longer a woman’s college.
Ah, that makes a bit more sense if it was part of PE, but still. Glad they don't require that anymore, don't get me wrong, knowing how to swim is useful but it doesn't really make much sense as a requirement to graduate college except in a few specific majors I suppose (marine biology)
