Question of the Day - Tuesday, October 28th, 2025

I like thunderstorms! They are so beautiful and just a tiny show piece of God's overall power (at least that's my belief). The one thing that's kind of annoying is that somehow whenever I go to make fudge all of a sudden a thunderstorm comes šŸ˜‚ . It's like somehow it knows.

I find the lightning’s amazingly beautiful to look at from 1 meter behind a window, safe in my house or wherever I am ar such a moment.

Most special:
Long time ago my future husband and I were hitchhiking to Greece and sat on the front seat of a van with the owner when an amazing thunderstorm was in front of us. We drove on the highway through Yugoslavia at that time not far from Belgrado.
The guy from the van got extremely exited, screaming and shouting of joy.
It was the most beautiful lightshow I ever did see (knowing it was all natural).

Thunderstorms down south are 100% different that we experienced in the northeast. They can be very loud and violent, especially when a cold front slams into the hot/humid southern air. The fear of Tornadoes is always on my mind, that's why we have a Tornado Shelter.

Our two granddaughters were young teens they were visiting here from the Boston area. They were excited that Thunderstorms were on the way. I warned the girls the storms were different here. They didn't care, they wanted to sit on the front porch and watch the lightning like they do at home. The first close air to ground lightning strike was extremely loud and the concussion shook our house. There was a very loud screams and a blur of two girls running for the bedroom closet.

I like to go out on the porch and watch. I usually don't see any bolts of lightning, as there are several large trees around the house blocking the view of most of the sky.

Storms scared me as a small child. One night my parents were having the neighbors over for drinks. A very loud thunderstorm came over the house, and I was scared. Otto Bretz sat me on his lap and told me, "Sally, thunder is just noise, and it's out there. It can't hurt you."

Thank you, Otto. That did make a difference in how I felt about storms.

We were always told that storms were just the angels in heaven bowling. The thunder was the ball going down the lane and the lightning was God getting a strike
