I can't recall anything about a gift registry, except for one that asked for kitchen items, and I don't think anything was over $50. A young couple, just starting out, and they needed stuff like a cutting board, or 4 coffee mugs, or a salad spinner, or a good sharp knife.

My mom told me that one couple she knew (way back when) listed their crystal pattern as Steuben. I think someone told them they would get a bunch of ashtrays if they did that; nobody they knew could afford to buy them a set of Steuben wine glasses.
