Here’s the oatmeal we get:

I will take pictures of the oats in my hand tomorrow to show you.
The package in @Evadig s post shows flakes. So I presume you say oatmeal to oat flakes ;).
I was confused because we use the Dutch word ‘meel’ for meal/flour.
But meal also means breakfast/ lunch/ dinner. The Dutch word for meal in this context is ‘maal’ or ‘maaltijd’.

So does oatmeal means a meal with oat? And do you say/use the word oat-flour to bake gluten-free bread?

Just to clear things up. Oat flakes cooked, and we call oatmeal. It is the finished food product.
It is also common to call the uncooked flakes oatmeal, when recipes ask for it. Most common are the flakes. There are also steel cut oats. I always purchase the flakes, for breakfast dishes, as well as for baked recipes.

I don’t eat the cooked instant oats but raw flakes. The cooked oat flakes (havermout) is mostly given to infants 👶 .

Raw oat and wheat flakes, raisins, dried seeds and other pieces of fruit , added a few fresh blueberries. 😋

Yes I think you are correct.

Mostly we say flour, not meal. Except when we are talking about ground corn. We call that corn meal.

We call breakfast, lunch, dinner "meals" also. Ridiculous! Lol.

I guess "oatmeal" means cooked oats. "Who wants oatmeal for breakfast?"

Can't answer that. I don't know. Just starting on GF journey, have not made GF bread yet.

Those oats (oat flakes as you call them) appear to be what we call "old-fashioned" oats. When cooked they remain chewy.

Below is what we call "quick" oats, they are more finely milled and cook into a soft porridge. They are my favorite.

And finally we have steel-cut oats, the coarsest of all. They are like hard little nuggets and cook into a very chewy mash and frankly I don't care for them at all.
