question on blocking off nest box for broody

Your doing what we do to teach the chicks the ramp. It usually takes more than once to show them a ramp, but they should catch on before Thurs. Is someone checking in with your animals while you are gone?

Phew I sure hope they catch on! I am lucky the little yellow one (thinking it is a light brahma) will normally jump in my hand if it can't find mom. then the dark one will follow. :) I have someone that will check in Friday night and Sat around 5, but she will be camping with us Friday into Sat. so not sure what time Friday she can check and 5 may be a bit early for them to be in Sat. But hoping she can help. My roo who is great with me, pretty good with my dh (he has pecked him once), was good with 1 daughter but pecked her the other day.... is NOT so good with people he doesn't know going into the run (jumped at my other daughter since she hadn't been out there in forever). so nervous about that. But the person checking in is going to come over before so hopefully he will be ok with her. I will also be sure to tell her to have something to protect if I don't think he will be good with her. Thinking I will pick him up and have her come in and pet him while i hold him so he can see that I am top and I say she is ok and hope that works?

oh and they do great going down the ramp. Seem to do good going up with me guiding them. They just don't follow mom in for whatever reason. I don't know if she isn't calling them? if they are off and not listening when she goes in....... They are quite independent and don't always stick right by her side. Hope they figure it out ASAP.

Ok I watched on the camera today (after the fact since I wasn't home) and think I figured out the problem. Mom jumps up on the ramp about 1/4 of the way up so then I think that confuses the chicks. Should I try to take mom out Tue and Wed? and have her go back in and put the chicks on the ramp to follow?

I am so nervous for Thurs! one of my daughters may be home that can put them in since she goes in early. And I am only about 30-40 min away but don't think my husband will be thrilled with me coming home to put chicks away each night. LOL
