Question on candling eggs

How long is too long to keep eggs out of incubator for candling?

I think I have seen sites that say 30 minutes but I have had eggs cold for over 24 hours that hatched fine so I would not get in a hurry.

I personally wouldn't go more than 10 min. I've seen a hen be off her eggs for that long.

On another subject but anyway one of the .edu websites say.

Work with only as many eggs as you can complete in one-half hour or less.​

It really kind of depends on how you handle them while out of the incubator. I put mine in a flat tray on a towel then put a towel over them so they don't lose heat too fast, then I candle them in a warm room, knowing what to look for well in advance so as not to sit there with the egg over the hot light for longer than 10 seconds. Handling the eggs gently not rough and jarring, return them to the bator and no harm done, you could keep them out for 30 min with out a problem.

Thanks. That puts my mind a little at ease. Took one out and put flashlite under it for bout a minute and realized I probly shodnt have it out. Saw a lot of veins and made me excited. First time ever incubating eggs

Awesome isn't it? I am new as well but have heard no more than 30 minutes...I do it as quickly as possible but I try not to hurry too much,and drop an egg

I like the towel idea...especially since this year the temps are fluctuating so much because I have the bator in a "kitten safe" room with an electric heater on. Hope your hatch goes well
