Ok here is the deal, I want to get some more chickens I have had buffs, barred rocks, red sex link, and delaware Hamp cross black jersy giants. I want to get some good brown egg layers, I seem to like the brown eggs better and can sell them better...Alot of women tell me the prefer them for baking and seem not to mind paying for them...If they are happy so am I! LOL I am looking at getting two breeds one for egg production and one to brood. Of all the breeds listed above I have only had one red sex link go broody? And they are not suppose too. LOL I guess she did not read the book.

Here is what I want:
1. docile chickens (Both breeds)
2. very good egg layers @ 50
3. good broody hens @ 10

I have been leaning towards N.H.Reds for eggs and Lagshan for broodies. This based on what I have read. What experiences have you guys had for good brown egg production and good broodies??

Buff Orphs make great broodies and lay pretty well too. For great egg production, you can't beat the Black Sex-link in my opinion. Mine layed everyday once they started laying and they were very good size eggs. Sadly I lost both my Boff Orph and my BSL to a bear last year.

Thanks, I have had buffs and none would brood, one would start then quit after a week. Maybe just did not have the right ones.
