Hi i have 2 questions on quail eggs
the first is is it normal to get 2 eggs per day from 1 (at 12pm there was none and an hour later there was 2 next to each other)

The other is how long can i leave eggs in pen
what i mean is incase chicks get broody and want to hatch there egg how long can i leave them in there before they should be removed (right now i just been putting the eggs in a pile as its there first few eggs as i dont eat/sell them yet)

edit: for background info there only 2 quail in pen i think 1 male room temp in pen stays around room temp so around 10oC -20

Quail lay one egg a day. And it really works out to more like 6 eggs a week. Every once in a while they'll skip a day. Mine lay between 4-8pm. I've never had a quail lay 2 eggs in a 12 hour period.

I think either you missed an egg from the previous day or you have 2 females.

You said you think you have 1 male. What kind of quail do you have?

found a 3rd egg after picking first two up deeper in straw lol
And they wouldnt sit still even holding for pics so i made short vids of them running around as some parts show chest better uploading to youtube now

the bit that abit confusing is one has spots but also red patch which can be seen in first vid
second vid them running around as cant get them still in position to see feather patterns

Not going to lie the videos were confusing. I saw one definite female and I never saw the other quail good at all.

Have you seen the male breeding the female?

Have you heard the male crowing?

Is your female missing a bunch of feathers on the top of her head?

If you answered no to all 3, and they both have some spots, and they're both old enough to lay eggs (6 weeks) then they are both females....

Males have no spots, solid burnt orange chest. Females have spots. You can start to tell the difference at 2.5 weeks but it's completely obvious by 4 weeks old. These are 5 and a half weeks old...
