Is it pretty standard for sellers to slip in a few extra eggs to compensate for breakage/damage during shipping?

Last two shipments from two different sellers did not include any extras (even tho one said she would). This has been on both expensive and inexpensive eggs.

A shipment I have coming in later this week will be an exact count - seller explained why - so I expect what I bought and no more.

Am I expecting too much??

If I buy eggs from someone I dont really except them to ship extras. If their listing says "12 eggs for sale-will include extras if possible" I dont expect them to either. That just tells me that on the day of them shipping them out that if there are any extra they might. Now if they do then thats great! Im all about that. I will admit that Ive bought a few eggs on here with a listing of "8+ eggs- will ship extras if possible" and been a little disappointed that they didnt ship extras. But like I said, if the post is for 12 eggs then I want the 12 eggs.

No I dont think so..If you and the seller know you are getting an exact count-then you should be happy with that-It would be nice to see an extra in there though:) I always say like 6+, the + to me means, 1-2 more for free "just in case"...

With me, it all depends on what I'm selling. I send extras when I have them, but I'm just getting started on my breeds, and most my purebreds I only have 2 hens. So if I offer 6+, you might get 8 eggs, and you might get 6, it all depends on the hens.

I know I'm disappointed when I don't get extras, but as long as you get what you pay for, then there shouldn't be any problem. I try my best to send extras with my eggs. A little surprise is always nice

As soon as you promise "extras" they will slow down on laying!

I always try to send extras if I can when I ship. If I am buying, I only try to expect the number I bought but am thrilled if i get an "extra"

I personally like extras and consider it a professional courtesy. I ordered 6 eggs from someone and they said they would send extra's if they could. Without shipping it was over $4/egg, and if you get a hatch rate of 50% you're paying $8 / chick with shipping. Luckily she sent three extra eggs because three were crushed by the post office, the box looked like hell even though it said FRAGILE all over it! I wasn't happy about it, and the extra eggs kept what I got at the amount I purchased.

I know that this is not the sellers fault, the eggs above were packaged well, I personally wouldn't have used the shredded paper because it makes the box heavier, which means it drops harder.

I guess when we buy eggs we know they will not all hatch, may have troubles arriving etc. But as sellers they know that as well, and I think both sides should come together and know what might happen.
