Question on "extra" eggs

I always send extras, except for the rare times when my birds do not lay much. 90 percent of the time I send 3-12 extras. I send as many extras as I can. I like happy customers.

I like to send extras also. I sell on ebay all the time & I put a # + extras. I personally don't like to say how many extras as I don't want it "expected". But I understand that the buyer will not get 100% hatch rate plus shipping can be so hard incase some get broken, I like to make sure there are still extras. But it depends on how my birds are laying, how many of what kind I can fit into the box, ect. The other day I sold 4 Turkey eggs. Because I don't have a lot of eggs coming, I did not put extras. But I sent 6 anyways. With Quail I sell big batches at a time so I'm known to send an extra 30-60 more. I have happy customers & many return to buy more from me. Besides, I sell the eggs I don't want to hatch. This helps cover the cost of feed & other things. If I have extras I would have to incubate them or throw them away. I prefer to send them to someone who really wants them.
I've always been disappointed when someone puts + extras & I only get 1-3 extras...

Hi! If I advertize 12+, there will be 13 or more eggs in the box (I've sent a partial refund several times because I'd advertized so-many+ and had no extras available to add).
If I advertize 12, there will be 12 --- and priced accordingly.

And everyone isn't able to count so good... Once, I bought a dozen eggs from someone here and there were only 11 in the box.

Here's a question for everyone that goes along with yours...
Would you rather buy 9+ for $$ and get 3 extras
or 12 for same $$?

I wouldnt expect extra eggs unless the seller says they will send extra... Just my opinion.

I've traded eggs and got all duds.. the seller admitted that none of her own eggs from her own birds hatched under her broody but she never replaced my eggs- now that's a fowl deal. the eggs I sent her, just as she asked to be held at the PO. they lost them for a few days in her PO. so she did not feel she owed me anything- nether of us got any chicks.

No, I don't think you are expecting too much to expect a couple of extra eggs, but if the seller didn't specify that extras would be included, I wouldn't be upset, either. I feel that it is common courtesy to throw in a few extras, provided that the seller's hens go along with the plan.

I of course know and understand that sometimes the girls are fickle and extras aren't always available. I think that, as a seller, if you aren't sure if you'll have extras a disclaimer of sorts should be applied to the ad (e.g., extras will be included IF the hens provide them). If someone advertises "quantity+ extras," I like to get 2 or 3 extras. I always appreciate a few extra eggs to help my chances of getting a decent number of live chicks from the hatch.

Me personally, when I sell eggs, I won't sell a specific quantity (say 12, for example) unless I'm reasonably sure that my hens will lay that quantity PLUS several more within 3 days, 4 tops. So I don't like to sell 12 eggs without actually shipping at least 15, preferably somewhere between 16-18. I like to send plenty of extras.

Shipping eggs is such a gamble, I want to help the odds of the seller getting live chicks any way I can.

Thanks to all for their thoughts.

I had ordered a batch of 24 (these were the expensive ones) - had three broken in shipping. Only got 3 babies from one "line" (had two "lines" shipped). Had most with no development , few died 1/2 way and few died in shell fully formed, but never pipped.

Ordered 2 batches of 20+ and only received a total of 40. This seller was difficult (to say the least) and lied several times about when they would ship, etc.

Sounds like you just get however many you get
