Question on fan for incubator!

I installed a pc fan in my LG and it is holding good temps. I do notice that since I put the fan in and on this hatch I have to add water more. I made some spacers about a inch long and mounted it where it blows to the top. I have light sussex eggs in there right now and on day 8, have not candled yet to see how things are going but will keep updated.

I also wired an old PC fan into my LG, and put it in the location where the fan is pictured on the instructions for the incubator. I have a few nuts on the screws separating the fan from the lid so that it will push air, and I also kept the guard on with the fan just in case. I have found that I need to add water almost every day, but I am new at this and this is my first attempt at hatching out eggs so...... I'll keep you posted?

I ended up taking the water out last night as I couldn't get the humidity under 50%. I let it run dry overnight and this morning the humidity was 25%. I used a turkey baster to put a little water in and my wife said it was back up to 43% when she left for work. I have both plugs out now and will see what it is when I get home tonight.

It looks like quite a few of us did the same thing with the same incubator! I should be getting my eggs tomorrow and will start incubating them on Friday.

I am also going to calibrate my hygrometer today... i think that was a factor in my first failed attempt

Should the new fan be wired to run constantly or hooked into the heating element wires and only run when the heating element is running?

What if we plugg it with the heating element or thermostat so that it gets ON and Off with bulbs?

The fan needs to run constantly or you will have a heat gradient cooler on bottom and hot hot on top develop until the fan comes back on. You will have wild temperature swings when the fan kicks on.

Thank you jenjscott.I was waiting for answer and you came with it.One more question,where to fix the fan in the bator?I have a small 50 eggs manual wooden incubator.There are 2 bulbs on the 2 side walls and thermostat on the center front wall.Size is 2x2x2.

I like to put it center top facing up if that is possible, kind of like reversing your ceiling fan in the winter. Less direct forced air on the eggs in the center but keeps it stirred up. Just my opinion.
