Question on feeding my girls weeds

I give mine weeds and grass clippings all the time this years since they wiped out the grass in my back yard last summer and I have new grass growing not letting them out until the grass is growing really well and then only for short amounts of time.

Mine love weeds of all kinds. I give them at least a 5 gallon bucket full every day during the spring & summer. They seem to absolutely love it.

depends on how much you wan to dig..5 gallons, 10 gallons, etc..if they were free range, they would be eating greens, weeds, etc., all day long.

MY gosh, I didnt know you could feed them weeds. Is there any you can not feed them? I took a head of cabbage and cut a hole thru it and strung it up in their coop. THEY WENT CRAZY on that head of cabbage haha.

OK so I showed up with a bucket of weeds today and grabbed a handful to see if they liked the new treats and yes they did they nearly ripped the weeds out of my hand and the noises that they where making was so funny and you could tell they liked it.

I'd avoid anything that looks like Queen Anne's lace--it could be hemlock. And avoid anything with a strong scent--many noxious plants have a strong scent. Also, avoid the leaves of nightshades (tomato, potato, peppers, eggplants, okra, etc.)

Otherwise, pretty much the world is your chickens' oyster! Mine enjoy prickly lettuce, lambs quarter, dandelions, dock, medic, chickweed, purslane, and dozens of other weeds whose names I have forgotten. I have huge hardcover book entitled "Weeds of the Great Plains" that I review every now and then to learn the names of some of my many weeds!
