my duck egg has started to hatch, an external pop. How long roughly from external pip to zipping?

How will I know if I need to intervene?

They can be really slow, sometimes they take up to 48 hours to start to zip.

If after 24 hours there has been no progress, you can carefully widen the pip to see what's going in inside. If the duckling is making yawning motions, it means it is still absorbing the yolk and needs a bit longer. If you end up needing help with an assisted hatch, just let me know, I'd be happy to walk you through it, but hopefully that's not necessary.
