As im quickly finishing my coop im starting to wonder how high the roost should be. My chicks are six weeks old. Should the roosts be the same height as they would for a grown hen or should i make them shorter and then in a few months raise them? Your input is greatly appreciated.

That's what I do, but I'm not sure how crucial it necessarily is. I suppose it depends on how easy it is for the chicks to get up there (height of roost, ease of flying up there, whether there's a ramp/ladder up, etc)

I'd just put them where they'll eventually be and make sure they have something to jump up on to get to them (shelf, upside down bucket, well placed stick etc).

Mine have been roosting in the rafters since 5 weeks old (and no, they're not SUPPOSED to be there) so I wouldn't worry too much LOL.

I like your idea of making them shorter to start and then raising them as they get bigger. When they are adults you want to make sure the roosts are taller than the nest boxes so they won't sleep in them.
