Hi,
Apparently here in Utah, it has become a fad for women to put rooster feathers in thier hair. My wife was getting a haircut, and the lady asked her if she wanted some feathers in her hair. She told my wife that the rooster was killed to harvest the feathers. That was a big turn off to my wife so she declined. I thought I would ask here if anyone knows anything about this. Is there a source for rooster feathers where the rooster survives? I only have hens so I don't know anyting about these feathers, or even what they look like.
Thanks,
James

James I heard about this on NPR this week. The fly fisherman are complaining that there is not enough feathers for the ties because of this new fad of women wearing them in the hair.

The story focused on this guy who raises EXCLUSIVELY roosters that he uses exclusive lines on for fly fishing, crafts etc. The new fad has quadroupled his business and he is the only one who does this (they said).

I did not hear in this story that the rooster was killed. Maybe they just left it out I don't know. Hope that helps. Maybe if you googled NPR rooster feathers you could get some more info.

Really???? You mean I can find a constructive use for all these roosters???

jk, but I bet they do kill them, even though the roos will shed the tail feathers, they probably don't naturally shed enough to keep up with demand. We have some beautiful ones though I've been using in dried flower arrangements...hmmmm.
