For those that own Brinsea Incubators......

When your eggs fit loosely, what do you do to tighten the gap? My husband suggested putting rolled up toilette paper at the ends???

That's one reason I use cut down styrofoam egg cartons - the eggs fit in THOSE just fine.

I cut out the bottoms of the cups, and the high parts of the edges around the bottom half of the carton (which is the part you use), so it's kinda like a collection of fat, connected rings to hold the eggs together.

I'm guessing you are referring to an Octagon20 Eco? (Just checking.) Other folks, if using the metal rail dividers, will use WAXED paper (so it won't soak up any moisture) tucked around the eggs, if they are loose.

I used small folded up sections of the 'small bubble' wrap that my eggs were shipped in. Seemed to work well.

Linda, can you still fit 24 eggs in the bator doing it that way?

Yes, just barely. I've done it with an 18 count carton and some bantam eggs outside the carton, and once with two 12 count cartons, wedged tightly together. If they're all BIG eggs, I would not use cartons for all of 'em.

I am using the Octagon20 Advance EX, and along with the wire divider rails, Brinsea provides scrunchable foam rail inserts. I've used the foam strips without the rails when I had all BIG LF eggs.

So, you don't use the dividers at all? I'll be setting some eggs in an Eco 20 tomorrow for the first time and it never occurred to me that the eggs sit loosely.

I use the metal dividers with the foam... and if they are too loose, they get either a little more foam or paper towel. Has worked for me.

I once got a 100% hatch in it.

I'm getting excited for the Easter Hatch!!!

Awesome guys thank you.

gryeyes - Yes, I have the Eco 20. Now I want to understand you correctly.... you mean you put the styrofoam egg carton without the wire dividers? With the automatic egg turner? They don't fall out of the egg cartons?

Sorry for all the questions?

Mahonri - I'm excited about the Easter Hatch too!!!

Yup, without the wire dividers. Yup, with the auto turner. Nope, they don't fall out of the cartons. No problem with ANY questions!

Thanks.
