Question on the squat

My understanding is that it is breeding behavior, submission to the Roo... therefore, i would think it is there for as long as they are breeding.

Oh, I dunno. The pullets who have squatted for me don't always do so. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. Since it's a sign of submission, generally to the rooster, I kinda think my gals do it when they feel like ummmmmm..... well, submitting to the roo's advances. And that includes ME, even though I certainly wouldn't mount any of 'em!

They don't always squat for the rooster, either. "Not today, honey."

If they all start doing this it will be like walking through a feathered minefield. Right now I only have three out of the sixteen squatting (and laying) and I have to watch where I walk now. When they all start laying....well.....shoot girls, I can't help you!
