Question on Thomas Pharr's chicken coop article

Chicken obsessed

I guess what I meant to say by saying I wanted to stay cheap was...I am new at this and I don't have lots and lots of disposable cash, so when you pointed the heat and cold thing out I do think I need to re-think not what I wanted but what I need instead. I can't afford to make costly mistakes. We live in central Florida and while we are getting a rather hot summer our winters do get cold....yes yes I know the northern people would beg to differ with me on the cold issue but everything is relative. So it is a fact we drop below zero often during winter months, luckily for us it doesn't stay that low for pro-longed periods of time but we do have our cold season as well and although our seasons are not as drastic as our northen counterparts it still is a significant difference. I have 12 cocker spaniels and I would not want them out in either the cold or heat for extended periods of time.

True, I don't know what the chicken tolernece level is for heat and cold so I am learning. So when you said what you said, I took it to heart to mean that I need to look at the ramifications of putting that type of roof on and in the end for our seasons down here in Florida would I be OK with that type of roof ? Perhaps if mine was open sided as your is but for now I can't affort 2 runs only 1 to start with so I will wait until later to try that corrugated stuff. Right now financially I can't afford to make costly mistakes. Like my dogs, I am sure I am going to want the most comfortable of living situations for my hens...the girls...

But heh you guys, keep pointing stuff out for me because it's better I catch these issues now before I spend money only to find out I need to spend more to make it right.....so please keep the suggestions and ideas coming, anytime I can learn from someone else I figure is a good thing for me....means they have already been there, done that and learned and why do I have to pay the cost of learning that same lessson when somone else has already done so for me.

Hey it's like a freebie and heck...I will take freebie's all day long.........

Thanks a bunch you guys really are a help even if only it makes me start to think things thru more carefully....

Hey this forum has already taught me how to make an inexpensive watering system as well as an inexpensive feeder that holds lots of food. I am loving this site. I think maybe I should have been born a farmer because I am likeing this stuff way to much for a city girl !!!!

Also I am finding that I am jealous I don't have pretty pics of beautiful girls to post...I can't wait....

I have the same--the translucent greenish stuff. Might be okay in a colder climate, but not in a hot area! If you think about it, you usually try to keep greenhouses warm; and that is what this stuff does--hold in the heat, at least in summer.

WOW ...Your right Sonoran Silkies..I never thought about it...it is for Greenhouses and what do Greenhouses do....duh...

Hey I lived in AZ for a while a long....long...long time ago.....like mid 70's...........that's probably before you were even born...my ex-had relatives in Tempe but we lived in Scottsdale...

Hey Sonoran Silkies maybe you can answer a question for me or direct me to where I might find the answer.

You know how under your name of Sonoran Silkies it says Flock Mistress and under my name of Areala it says New Egg?

That is called the title and I was wondering how I change that....when I go to Profile there is no place there that allows me to change that.
So am I gonna be a New Egg forever ?

Just wondering
