I have two laying Rouens. Yesterday one of them laid a bonus egg but it had no shell. Should I be concerned? I have read posts about chickens and ducks laying eggs without shells and possibly becoming egg bound.
Here is their relevant data:
Both are on their first year of laying.
Both have laid a normal egg with a strong shell every day since they started.
Always between 6:00 and 8:00
They eat Nutrena All Flock + free range + tons of oyster Shell available (and they eat it).
Yesterday both laid an egg between 6:10 and 6:40
Yesterday one of them laid the bonus egg at around 15:30
Could this be related to a calcium deficiency or did the egg just come out before it got around to getting its hard shell? Could this be something else to be concerned about or do ducks just sometimes shoot one out before it's done?
Thanks for any insight.
