I have 3 week old turkey babies. They are naggs..Heritage birds. The original owner was feeding them duck starter. ..I have never heard of that before is this ok.?I would of went to game bird starter. What do you think? Also how old do they stay on this feed for?And what do i switch to them next.??I was told that if the protein is to high they can get wing something...SOme thing like drupy wing. But when i do research it is telling me they need high protein. So can someone set this straight. thanks

I am not an expert on turkeys but I have raised a few before. Yes, they need a higher protein. I believe it is to support their bone growth. I don't know anything about the duck feed you are talking about.

Ducks will get angel wings if feed to high of protein. It is a man made problem in ducks feed comercial feed, imbalanced minerals and to many calories. Turkeys do not get angel wings. Turkeys need high protein. 28 to 30 percent protein from a turkey or game bird starter. My turkeys are all on starter, even the breeders. Some people will drop the protein down to 22% after the turkeys are 4-6 months old. Duck Starter is about 20-22 percent protein and only feed the first two weeks. After they need 14-16% protein.
