I'm donating two dozen eggs for a school egg drop. In the downstairs 'egg fridge', I found eggs that are a little over a year old (I dated them). They just feel light, and when I put a light to them, the cell is big and since they sat so long, the yolks stick to the top. Would these be okay to give? I just don't want to waste fresh eggs on a egg drop, that's why I'm giving these.

1) I don't want them to have stinky eggs
2) I want to have the completion be 'fair'. Like a lighter egg wouldnt crack as easily as a heavier one
3) I don't want to have a bad reputation in that school...

I know this sounds silly, but you know... I'm sure store bought eggs are old, but not this old.

Thanks.

Eggs are naturally bacteria free. When stored someplace cool with enough humidity, they will last for a surprisingly long time - Mother Earth News did an egg storing experiment and found unwashed, refrigerated eggs to be still edible 9 months later. The eggs are most likely partially dehydrated, which may affect how they drop and break.

You can leave an egg someplace where it will not get jostled, and over time it will gradually dehydrate. I have 5 or 6 bantam pullet eggs sitting in a kitchen window, 2 of them are over 3 years old. The contents have dried out completely, but otherwise they are completely normal in appearance.

Thanks, that's helpful! :)
