Question Post: Mites on ducks

Hi ya'll!
I found lice on my ducks yesterday and I'm going to pick up some ivermectin drench. Do I need to dilute it before putting it under their wings?
Also I have Permethrin.. Should I spray that around their coop?
Thank you!!
Ivermectin is available as
  • 1% injectable for cattle. This can be given orally to all waterfowl and poultry. Not sure how well it will work if given topically. Max dose is ~0.05 ml per pound (0.25 ml per five pounds).
  • 0.5% pour on for cattle. This is the only topical ivermectin and should never be given orally. Max dose is 0.1 ml per pound (0.5 ml per 5 pounds).
  • 1.87% oral paste for horses. This is given orally. Max dose is 0.03 ml per pound (0.15 ml per 5 pounds).
None of the above products get diluted.

Permethrin can be used on waterfowl and it's okay to use both ivermectin and permethrin at the same time, though you don't need to.

If you decide to use permethrin spray you need to get the spray on the skin, not just the feathers.

Okay, so that's the 0.08% stuff, which means is 0.8 mg per ml.
  • The minimum effective dose is ~0.12 ml per pound of body weight (~0.57 ml per five pounds).
  • The max dose that I would use is ~0.57 ml per pound of body weight (2.8 ml per five pounds).

Edited to add:
This ivermectin is the most diluted of all of them, that is why the dose is so much higher.
