I tried using these in a previous hatch but I lost several eggs. It made me wonder if the solid bottom caused air flow issues and cold spots in the incubator. This hatch I used these and they worked great. They come in different heights and lenths.

I'm going to try those! Great idea! I do not need to use anything to separate often but the buffs and red pyle chicks look the same so I've been using a basket I got from a hobby store. I like those dividers better!

Interesting, I only added the boxes at lock down, and actually the ones in the boxes almost all hatched first. i did notice towards the end that the boxes had gotten soggy, I was worried they would then block o2, so I moved the last 2 out.

Don't feel bad. My new black chicks, 2 days old, lost their leg bands in the brooder, now I'm having trouble telling them from the 4 day old black chicks

ETA: Correction, the older chicks are a week old, apparently sleep deprivation is kicking in.

23, Orangey 20, dumplings @hatchify and 14, linguine @jxp all hatched this morning! Only 3 left, 2 were set a day later so are only now hitting day 21 (There were 22 total)

I couldn't figure out how to rig gentle and safe leg bands, and have no money to spare when it ultimately doesn't matter. We have a neighbor wanting some dorking cross chicks, but that's easy to tell, I just have to count toes! Other than that we will be waiting until they are more grown to do anything anyway.
