My husband threw some pekin/roen mutt eggs in one of those tiny $20 incubators on a whim and actually got one to hatch. Much to my dismay, he’s crested. (I say “he”, but I have no idea what it is.) He’s absolutely adorable, and being a singleton has completely bonded to us. (Both awesome and unfortunate, as my ducks aren’t meant to be strictly pets.)

So my concern is this: I have 20 ducklings 2 weeks ahead of him, as well as a few adults wandering around. Will I ever be able to integrate him into the rest of the flock safely? Or does his cute crest put him in too much danger of being damaged by the normal pecking order behavior? Is he destined to be a house duck and always alone? :hitI feel so bad for the little guy!!! Any info on how to handle him would be appreciated.

Thanks, @chickens really . I’ve never seen a crest at hatch before, but it seemed to be the whole top of the skull.

This will be the first time I pray for a drake!
