So I wanted to ask...

As a management tool, would it work to use fake eggs to divert chickens and ducks to 'suggest' to them where to drop their real eggs?

Would they be more likely to decide to put their eggs at a specific site with fake eggs over other eggs?

What do you think about this?

I had thought they used fake eggs mostly to try to trick poultry into going broody. But today I had my first easter egg hunt and thought...maybe I won't like doing an easter egg hunt EVERY day. LOL.

That is the MAIN reason for salting nests with fake eggs...to teach the hens where to lay.

So yes, absolutely, place fake eggs where you want them to lay. They are instinctively drawn to lay there.

Also, it is important to remove eggs from anywhere you don't want them to lay, and to block them away from that area as much as possible.

Yes, fake eggs work very well for convincing the ladies to use nest boxes, or any area you want them to lay :)

Does it matter if they are white? Or how real they look? (Or if they are easter colored plastic ones?)

I've noticed a price difference in ones that look real, and the ones that are for kids for easter which are colored but have the same shape?

What do you think about this?

Cal Ranch wants about 7 dollars for 2 that are ceramic and look real.

But Walmart sells white hinged easter plastic ones that are 2 bucks for a dozen.

If possible I'd like to flip off Cal Ranch, by getting something affordable.

My chickens have never noticed any difference in plastic Wal-Mart ones or expensive ones. I usually use the el-cheapo ones myself. :)
