Question re: roost and poop board design.

How high off the floor are your roosting bars and your poop board? Thanks!
About 4 feet (I have a 4x8 salvaged 3 level metal coop)
POOP BOARDS are the "BEST" addition yet. Handles well over ½ of the poop in my set up keeps ammonia smell in check 3½" below roost excellent for catching eggs laid through the night (roost are in cups for easier removal and cleaning). I recently friction fit a piece of vinyl flooring over my poop board.it makes clean up even easier; Pop out; Scrap; Hose; Pop in.

Winter months even easier flex over compost bin DONE!

Nest boxes
In my nest boxes I fold a feed bag to fit (nest boxes are 1 ft³). When a bag gets soiled; fold a new one; pop out the soiled; pop in the new.

Easy peasy!.

Had poop boards in the first coop, you know, because everybody said I should. They worked as expected - they were about 12" under the roost. I used stall dry (sweet pdz) in the poop boards to make scooping easier and eliminate odor.

In the current coop, I did away with the poop boards and switched the bedding, and we are all much happier. Now using chopped forage on the floor. This stuff is amazing. One bag on the floor - I rake it, turn it once a week and the coop smells great, the hens have a wonderful time scratching in it. I use a manure rake to scoop up the poop (they really only poop under the roost, also about once a week - I clean out a bucket full.

Board is 2 feet wide lined with vinyl, roost is in centered.
Removable roost is 8-9" above board, sand and PDZ on board about 1" deep.
Use a short handled hoe and a metal mesh organizer basket to sift poop every 2-3 days.
I use a 1x4 x 20" with 2 screws in the edge for depth to smooth the sand back out after sifting.
Don't need to remove roost to sift with hoe to pull it all forward, roost doesn't get much poop on it and I think the 8-9" height keeps anything from reaching the wall.

yep, I think that a perch way above the poop shelf means more chance of poop hitting the back wall.

One of my perches is only barely above the shelf, just four inches.

But, that perch is up on little feet, so you can push the entire perch backwards, clean everything up, and then pull it back into place.
