Question regarding baby chicks

I have a couple of broody hens that are sitting on eggs. If for some reason these eggs do not hatch, do you think if I went to the feed store and bought some baby chicks and put them in the nest that the hens would start raising them. Just a thought!

IF the timing is right and you put them under at night, you have a decent chance.

We did it when I was a kid and I saw it work most of the time but sometimes it didn't.

Yep. She would still need to be broody and you would need to do it in the middle of the night so it's dark. Keep an eye on her and the chick, but plenty of my hens have taken to chicks that weren't hatched by the hen herself. The chick needs to be VERY young though. no two week old chicks or anything like that.
