Hi! Need to figure out if i should or shouldn't mix them....i have 3 silkie bantams now with 10-15(includ. packing peanuts) coming friday, then in April i have 10 layers coming, RIR, NH Red, and Barred Rock.....all chickens are straight run. So what's the verdict? Bantams are silkies, cochins, a dutch, a wyandotte, and a d'uucle.

Personaly I would not mix any standard's with bantam's.RIR's and standard Wyandottes are big roo's(even chicks).Even though We free ranged most of our bird's We tried to keep the sizes sep.I am totaly redoin my flock this year due to things and everyone is goin to be TOTALY in a sep. area. If you are just using for eggs the standards can house together but I would take those silks out those roos' can kill them. And Ugly roo's if they get time out are getting the waterhose spray lol.Cochin's, silkies,D's OEGB, frizzles and some other breeds bantam.I have my new chicks I just got sep. by breed.
Bantams in one box layers in another.Keeping the tiny ones safe.

Thanks for the reply, i was thinking pretty much the same thing, am going to have to seperate them, much rather be safe then sorry!!

I have my LF leghorn hen in with my bantams. they do fine together. Now the roos on the other hand weren't raised together so they keep their distance from each other usually.

All mine are together, I have mainly standard cochins but I have 2 bantam hens. However, I have only 2 roos a big buff standard cochin and a lil bantam roo. Don't know what he is but he is the boss of the whole flock. The standard roo knows this for sure. And respects the boundaries.

I have all my bantams and standards in the same pen, they do just fine. I've nver had a problem with it, but the standard roos do tend to breed the bantam hens and the bantam roos breed the standard hens ... that's how I got a "Bantam" EE hen!!!!
