after an egg is laid can you tell if it is fertile or not before you candle them? i have dark brown eggs and it is killing me to wait those ten days just to find out that it isnt fertile!!

Only if you crack it open and see a bullseye

on a dark egg you might have trouble telling. We candle our eggs at 3 days. On the white and tinted eggs, you can usually see the first of the vein developement.

On an unincubated, intact egg, you cannot tell if it's fertile. Wish you could!!

We had good luck seeing veins and tiny peeps at five days in Marans eggs. That would at least split your waiting time in half!
