Question to those with front load washing machines....

Haha, trust me, if you had the problem, you'd definitely know it. I didn't so much smell it in the washer as much as in the shower. When we'd dry off with bath towels, the smell was awful.

Paid a fortune for this washer/dryer set, and my clothes stunk-it really sucked. I was to the point of tossing them and getting a top loading washer, but since I've done what the service guy told me to, I no longer have the problem.

I have only had mine since Christmas and so far no problems. I love it. I did a lot of research on it before I bought it and read that you should use a powder verses a liquid detergent. Something about the liquid having some kind of oily residue. I don't even use liquid fabric softner in my washer. I just get the sears brand of powder detergent.

I've had my front loader for more than a year now, and I love it! Tho mine (an LG pair) specifically said in the instruction book to leave the door to the washer open when not in use to let it dry out. So that's what I do, and I have never had any smell at all. As far as cleaning clothes, this thing does so much better a job than any top loader I ever had. Hubby had some shirts he wears to work that he was about to toss because they had stains on them I could not get out no matter what I did. One run thru the front loader and most of them came out. One or two were super stubborn and did not, but it saved at least a half dozed shirts he would have needed to replace. I only use the HE detergent they recommend for these washers (I use Tide), and rarely need to add bleach. I can run the dog's beds, jackets, whatever thru it with no problem. Mine has a soak cycle if I need it, as well as the ability to open it after the cycle has started to put another item in it. It also has settings to run a short wash if I only have a few lightly soiled things to wash. I doubt I will ever go back to a top loader.

I bought a Whirlpool Duet, used at that! Only thing I've had to have done is have the seal replaced. I can pause it if I need to add something I've forgotten, and a soak cycle. I love it! And the best part?

I've never had a problem with a bad smell and neither did the lady I bought it from.

The dryer is good, too- but I've had to have it serviced once since it found it's way to the house

Can't complain overall though, I could never have afforded such a nice set brand new!

My parents have had an LG front loader for a few years, too. Mom has not complained about the smell, either.

I've had one, for nearly four years, and have never noticed any smell...I did notice, early on, that being energy effecient, it uses a minimum amount of water.

First off, let me say that most people use way too much soap...I use minimal soap and always, add an extra rinse cycle, to be sure that all the soap is rinsed out.

Also, I only use scent free soap, and generally, I use about a tablespoon of bleach, on every load.

I have an LG Tromm and I have never had any problems with smell even though we have "smelly" well water. I do clean the front "trap" at least once a month (careful when you do this as there will be lots of water and stuff come out. I also make sure after I am done using it (for that session) I empty the detergent container because it seems to hold water; I also grab a paper towel and wide down the seal. I also never shut the door unless it is washing or I have company. It annoys my husband that it is always open but I don't give him any other choice. If you already have a bad smell I would dump 2 gals of vinegar, turn it on sanitary cycle and let her go.

I eliminated all the smell issues I was having by adding a second rinse cycle. Its an option on my machine. A guy at the place where I bought it told me to do this. He said that a lot of people select the single rinse to save water but adding a second rinse removes all traces of soap in the machine which is where the odor begins. Since I started this all odor has disappeared and since the machine is pretty water efficient to begin with the second rinse isnt really much of an issue money wise. Clothes are clean front loader smells nice ...life is good

Well I'd be darned! Never thought about using dishsoap washer!

Mom told me if I ever used powder, it would ruin the washing machine with hard gunk in there like it does for the top loader when all the soap will settle in the bottom and collects there.

I do remember washing my dd's mistakes and it was

so I had to rewash it again and it came out clean!
