Question? What common mistakes are made when building chicken coop

When you're predator proofing don't forget to dig down 10-12 inches and bury the hardware cloth so animals can't dig under. This is tedious and not any fun but it could definitely save your chickens. If you don't want to dig down you can lay it 12 inches or so on the ground around the coop and cover with mulch. Good luck and enjoy your new family members!

I would definitely say ventilation. I thought I used all my bought-knowledge to design and locate our coop to ensure cozy or cool temps for my "Biddies" (what I call my girls), but we had to go back an add some vents. We designed them that we can easily close them for the cold months. I would like to add a shade tree or two to help keep the coop and run comfortable in the summer, but that might have to wait until fall. Good luck with your flock!
