can I feed my chickens the trimmings from my zucchini plants? I have green leaves & stems while trimming my zucchini plant but there are little pricks on these parts...will it hurt my chickens?

Hello,

Yes, you can. It's good for them and they will probably like it. The prickly leaves are fine. We feed pumpkin leaves to our ducks, and they are also prickly. The ducks go wild for it!

so glad you have joined us.

Zucchini are not listed on any toxicity list I have seen, let us know how they like them. Mine won't eat cucumbers, but they are a picky spoiled bunch of hens :)

It's not the zucchini but the leaves. They do have little prickly side- not sure if it is ok for their digestion. Anyone know?

Hello,

My ducks have eaten thousands of prickly-leaved plants and are fine with it. I doubt there is any danger.

I really don't know, but if it worries you, then don't give it to them. Let them have the zucchini fruit and compost the plant and leaves?
