Question

Is that total space? You should have 3-4 feet per chicken in the coop and 10 feet per chicken in the run. You need at least 40 square feet in the coop and at least 100 in the run and more is better this is just the bare minimum you can get away with.

An 8x10 coop would be more than enough space for 10 chickens.

And 8x10 run is too small for 10 chickens.

The usual guidelines are that each adult, standard-sized hen needs:

4 square feet in the coop,
10 square feet in the run,
1 linear foot of roost space,
and 1 square foot of permanent, 24/7/365 ventilation, best located above the birds' heads while they're sitting on the roost. The pop door and any windows that are closed in the winter don't count. :)

Do you have a coop already? Are you thinking of buying something? Building something?

Where, in general, are you located? Climate matters and predators vary in different places. :)
