I built a roost for my new kids and when I first put it in they were all over it. i noticed last night that they were all under it sleeping. is this normal will they start to use the roost?

Yes, young chickens will sleep on the ground in a "dogpile" for a while. They'll prefer roosting at night when they get older.

I agree. Younger ones will sleep on the floor and older ones will figure out what they're used for. Sometimes if they don't you could put them up there when it's time for them to go to bed, do that for a few days at the same time and they'll get the idea

sincerely,
Jackie
