Well, I have some bantam chickens that are excellent flyers the highest I seen one fly has to be at least 15 feet high!! Well, I've been noticing when they get chased by a dog they don't fly, like they just run and they can't take flight they have there wings open and flapping but they can't take off from the ground and if they do its Barley 2 feet but they come back down.. Why is that?

I have noticed this many times over the years but I really need to
go with Two Crows on this one as it is not good for the chickens
to get chased by dog's this will stress them and lower their egg
production not to mention molting ......

The dogs could stress them to the point of a heart attack - birds are fragile and easily panic. I wouldn't wonder why they could fly like that, I would prevent the stressors from happening again.
