we just have dogs but 1 dog is in a corral far away from the chickens because he always try to kill them the other dogs are use to the chickens and hardly bother them and there usually at our porch sleeping

The birds don't know he is contained "far away" now - what they know is that they have had encounters with an animal that tried to kill them - so this may well still be contributing to their state of nervousness and desire to seek shelter off the ground and away from that predator.
