Questions About Broody Chickens and or Raising Eggs

My hen-only one has been sitting on eggs for a few hrs at a time. I dont want any hatching, but in a few months. If you dnt have to many hens to one rooster then you shouldn't have any issues with fertility. What you should think about is letting the hens/rooster get to know what they are doing a awhile: let the hens lay and the roosters get the hanky panky figured out, maybe a month's time. Then collect the eggs and crack them open and see if you see a white bulls-eye on the egg. That will tell you the eggs are fertile.

I wouldn't eat the roosters till your hens start laying, that way you will know which one is the best rooster. Also by letting the hens lay for awhile you will be able to observe which one will be the best broody. All the ups and downs want be smoothed out over night, by giving them a little time to figure out their life's mission will get you going down the "farming " path without very little issues. Have fun, enjoy!!

Ok I have a question..I have a very broody hen. I have been thinking about selling some hatching eggs. So question : can I leave the eggs under her for a day or two till I have enough of whatever for the interrested party. Will having them under her then suddenly taking them away cause harm to them. I know she wouldn't not sit on a few but ive not hatched or sold eggs yet. Just trying to get a handle on the broody, eggs, selling before I really get in it. Thanks!

I wouldn't put eggs under her then take them away. The chicks would start to grow, and then the stress of being away from heat or a lack of heat will kill them.

This is what alot of people do, take an egg turner (the kind you plug in along with the heater in the incubator) and put all the eggs you plan to sell on there. It keeps the yoke from sticking to the side of the egg, and you wont have to turn them by hand.

Okay thank you so much you have helped me very much! Good luck to you! :)
If have anymore questions, let us know!

If I want to sell some hatching eggs how long can they sit out, like on my counter before they are not viable anymore? I know you should turn them, like twice a day, morning - night? Thanks!
