Questions about D'Anvers

My son and I have been looking around at different breeds for his 4-H project. He has actually narrowed it down to D'Anvers and Rosecombs.

We've found some self blue D'Anvers within driving distance, but I'm not sure if these would need to continue to be bred only with other self blue's or if they can be bred with other colors. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I'm new to raising chickens for show so I'm not sure what I would be looking for. I did look at the D'Anver breed thread, but realize some of those are show quality and some are just pets. I have also found the D'Anver standard online and read it, but not sure I fully understand it. Can anyone provide pictures and tutorial on what to look for or major no-no's to avoid?

Self Blue can be bred to Black....all of the offspring will be Black...but some will carry the Lavender gene (self blue).

My son used to show D'Anvers and he loved them! Easy breed to raise and to show!

Self blue is a harder color to breed.If you breed them you might want to trim a few vent feathers.Just to add my two cents worth.
