Well i got some chicks from tsc out of the bantam bin and they have all turned out to have the silkie feathers. One has all the traits of a silkie but it dosent have any feathers on its legs and it is a little bit larger than the rest. 3 of them have straight combs. Also on 2 of them the toe closest to their body is a double toe.

Is any of this normal? I know pictures would probablly help, i'll try to take some tomarrow. Any input is appreciated.

I got some silkies (I think) from TSC as well. But they don't seem to have the vaulted head that I expected. They are about 3 weeks old. They have the extra toe, feathered feet, and black skin. And it looks like they will be white. Could they be something other than silkie? Are their other breeds that have the extra toe and black skin? The one polish that I bought at the same time certainly has the vaulted head.

I will try to get some pictures tomorow.

Sounds like you guys have silkies.. I'm no expert, but it is my understanding, silkies can have the extra toes, or not, they are still silkies. They can also have the vaulted head, or not- still silkie. I think they do have to have black skin and of course the silkie feathers, but some traits like toes and vaulted heads, are not always present. I dont know what the breed requirements are for show birds though.

I have a silkie that has extra toes on one foot, and not the other! Some of my silkies have the 'big top' heads, and some dont, but they all have the special feathers and black skin. Theyre all hatchery stock, for whatever thats worth.

Here is the one with no feathers on its legs

just seems like hatchery silkies to me

the fused fith toe is very common and more of a fault than a deformality I think. The straight comb is not to standard but many hatcheries are not that picky with thier breeders.

they will still be super cute just not show quality.

One more question there is one that almost has the double toe but the toenaiil is only half split it just looks like a huge toe. Will it grow out alright? Thanks

no probably not but it wont bother it either. It will look like that most likely forever but I could be wrong...
