I crossed the americaunas with the black copper marans back in February and I now have laying olive eggers.
The color really is so unusual and beautiful.
Everyone loves them and wants at least one included in the dozens that I sell.
I am going to try and hatch some more next month.

Hello, I'm new to bloging and BYC. I'm not sure if this is the place to ask but does any one know of any Olive Egger breeders? Any help would be much appreciated.

Sorry but if you spell Ameraucana or Araucana wrong I think you have EEs

Anyway, right now I'm in the process of making an Olive Egger experiment. My Brahmas lay pink eggs, so if I cross them with an EE. . . I'm wondering if I get a pale olive, or a pale green, or what. . . So, I'm due to find out in 6 months.

Also, another thing I am sure to do is take my Black Copper Marans, cross them to my Ameraucanas, then take the Olive Egger offspring and cross it to the bluest egg laying Araucana of mine. Hopefully I should get an extremely rich, vibrant green color of egg. Not the pale EE green, but a grass type green. Since I've never seen anyone else do it, I'm just guessing that should be the result.

- Thank goodness for my Araucanas being from Gary. He has the BEST blue eggs!

My EE roo crossed with my EE bue and green egg hens gave me olive eggers: 3 medium olive and one decently dark one. I am thinking this means he isn't homozygous and possibly not any blue genes at all. All my EEs are hatchery birds.
Round two is in the bator now: some of his daughters and a leghorn bred back to him! Not that it matters much-- I just wanted eggs and the mixture of colors is pretty! I am looking forward to getting a young blue-egg REAL Ameraucana roo to put with them. Next batch: different shades:) It's great to tell exactly who is laying:)

So if you use a Marans Roo with blue laying Ameraucanas any chance of getting olive eggs? Why does the Roo have to be a blue egg layer? I just got my first Pullet egg from the above cross and it is blue. I am hoping one of the other two hens might lay green.

Thanks much,
-Mary

As far as I know, you should get the very same thing - you are getting the blue egg gene, with the dark brown........

It's just much easier to get Marans hens than it is real Ameraucanas.

I have black copper marans, and I am in the planning process for obtaining some americaunas.

I wanted the dark egg of the marans, and the blue egg of the americauna, and I am excited to learn that I will be able to cross the two to get the olive eggers.

Cool.

My sister, who raises a lot of different breeds also sells eggs. She said most often her family ends up eating the blue eggs because the people she sells to think they look gross or rotten!
