I'm new to chickens and bought four young hens yesterday - all under 1 year old. It's been less than 24 hours, and I was so excited to find our first egg, which was from one of the two Easter Eggers. Yay! I have a couple of questions, though.

1. The egg has some black spots on it. I could scrape some of them off with my nail. What is this? Will this hen's eggs always have these spots?
2. Do you wash off your eggs, and with what?
3. Will they get bigger? The person I bought the hens from says that these hens just started laying.

Thanks! Here is a picture of my first egg. I'm happy to find out that my Easter Egger lays the blue/green eggs, even though it is light and hard to see in the picture.

The black spots on the eggs are probably speckles, she should have those forever, you can buy some stuff to wash them with I think it is called proeggcleaner or something like that. Yes they should get bigger as they get older.

Looks like a large egg to me, unless you have small hands. My brother has a green egg laying hen and it has spots on some days and none on others. Perhaps a change in food is making the spots?
