My family has 5 chicks, they are two weeks old. We were intending to start giving them grit earlier, but we couldn’t find any for a while. My first question is how much grit should we give them? And then what is the best way to give them grit, in a separate bowl or sprinkled in their feed?

It's best to let the chicks decide how much grit they need by offering it in a separate bowl. The chicks should quickly learn the difference between the grit and their food and self-regulate well. Since they are still young, make sure you are offering chick grit or other very fine grit, regular chicken grit isn't recommended until about 8 weeks.

With chicks, I do sprinkle a little bit on their food every few days, sort of like putting pepper on your meal. Once they graduate to the next size of grit I stop adding it to the feed.
