Yep, that's way normal, they can start buck-wheating really clearly as early as 5wks old.
Yay! You have HENS! That means EGGS EGGS EGGS and more EGGS next spring!

LOL Mine were buckwheating their little fuzzy behinds off when they were first up at the house. Now after the predator attacks .... and now all I here are peeps and a few Whit Whews..... yesterday I heard a very very quiet Buck Wheat from out there..... I was in the house.

Woohoo! Can't wait till next year! I hope I get at least 7-8 hens.

Today we went by someones house and we had to stop since some of their ducks, guineas, and geese wouldn't get out of the way but we weren't in any hurry. I was looking towards the road that goes back towards their house and I saw a momma guinea with at least 5 cute little keets going as fast as they can to keep up with momma. I was also suprised about how protective the whole flock is of the keets! One of the geese (must have been a gander) was getting ready to attack one of the keets and all of the guineas stopped what they were doing and went to attacking not just the one goose but the whole flock of them! Those guineas sure are pushin it for only being 4 pounds and those geese weighing around 15 pounds! Just thought I would share.

LOL that's funny, cuz geese can be pretty mean, lol. Long long lonnnnnnnng time ago my neighbors had a flock of geese that would attack us kids every time we rode thru the trail that led between my house and my friends' houses on our ponies. We'd hafta lift up our feet and legs to avoid gettin bitten by those meanies!

Whatever you DO NOT! I repeat Do not let the female go broody! Worst decision I have made! That was just horrible trying to water and feed them! I had to have a rake and shovel in each hand just to feed the feeder back up! The male was NASTY when the female was setting! Just imagine just wakeing up at 6 in the morning and going outside to get chores done and its pitch black out and you have to be extra careful with that gander out there... Ooo *Shiver* He was horrible! But he was pretty tasty for thanksgiving whenever he went after my nephew one day. That was the last straw. The female never did hatch out her eggs she died from not getting off her nest and high tailing it out of the coop whenever my sisters dumb@ss dog came in there for a snack and the dog also ate the eggs for some reason and of course this was when I was gone and only my sister was home...

I'm rambleing again!

LOL, thanks for the heads up, but I don't plan on ever owning any geese, too many traumatic childhood memories involved there, lol

The Thanksgiving Day dinner idea is a good one tho, hmm...
