Yikes on that eye issue... maybe he ran it into the box or it got scratched somehow during transit by another keet. You can dab some plain Neosporin (the kind without pain relief added) in it 2-3 times a day, see if that helps.

And yup, they flubbed your order, the Pearl Greys were 'sposed to be Pied Pearl Greys huh? Oh well, more keets on the way next week... man you're going to have some major brooder action goin' on, lol.

Congrats again! Enjoy all that cuteness while it lasts, they don't stay that way very long

OMG theyre here Whew.... When did they arrive?

Wow what a shiner....

BTW for the first couple of days its probably a good idea to keep paper towels over all the shavings.... just so they can learn which is food and which is bedding.

Happy dance from San Diego.....

LOL... "Shiner". I love it, (bless his little owie tho), got the first one named! Only 15 more to go in this batch

The Main PO called at 9 last night saying my Chicks were there and to come and get them because they were being very very loud!

I kinda threw the brooder together at the last moment so I will definately get paper towels down!

We had 2 Pearl Keets die last night. Bubble Eye Keet is still alive.

Bummer, already lost 2

Might be the shavings (they could be eating them), but might have just been from the stress of being shipped.

If they've already started eating the shavings it might be a better idea to just take them out entirely so they can't still peck around the edges and continue to ingest any. I've been using a hand towel with no loose strings directly under the heat lamp then that rubberized shelf liner over the top of paper towels for the first 4 days, clean it daily (sometimes twice a day), keeping food and water close at first, then I put them on grass hay (that doesn't have any seed/grain or alfalfa in it), or coarse straw for a few days before I start using the flake shavings (not the fine stuff).

I Hope you don't lose any more!

Electrolytes w/vitamins added into their water are always a good idea, especially for shipped keets (IMO anyway).

Lost a lavendar and looks like another is going to die also.
I changed the bedding to a old towel without any strings on it. And lowered the heat lamp down a little more because they looked a little cool.

You want my cute keetsies, I want your duckies with the bad hair doos, so we are even... lol.

I'm sorry you are losing more keets

Sounds like electrolytes would help... even some gatorade or pedialyte if that's all you can get. Dip their beaks, make sure they get a few swallows each time.

Are they eating and drinking on their own? Some super finely shredded carrot or a small slice of water melon to peck at will give them some extra moisture and natural sugars, plus it might help them pass the shavings if they are possibly impacted from eating them. Maybe a protein boost from some crumbled boiled egg yolk will help give them a boost.

You can lay a thermometer directly under the glow of the lamp and measure the temp... it needs to be 95 degrees the first week then lower the temp 5 degrees each week. And they do need to be able to get away from the heat.

Are they being noisy? Panting, shivering? Are they piling up and smothering each other in the corner? Are they acting lethargic, do they have diarrhea or pasty bottoms? Just trying to help you figure out what's goin' on

Sigh.

Depending on which breeder you ask... that keet is either a Pied Brown or a Pied Cinnamon. It has the mottled/blended markings referred to as "Teddy Bear", but will feather out as a normal Pied Brown or Pied Cinnamon as soon as it starts growing feathers.
