Questions about hatching in egg cartons...

What is best? Letting the eggs lay on their sides for hatching or the egg carton method?

Everyone has their own opinion on this....I personally use it and like it,I have tried both ways and do better with the carton but not everyone agrees.

I like the egg carton method myself. I no a lot of people do it this way and like it.

Well, alot of people like the egg carton method, especially if you've got shipped eggs with detached air sacs.....and if you don't have an egg turner it can be helpful. You can quickly open the incy, and put a little block under the egg carton on one side, and pretty much instantly they've all been turned. Then you put your little block under the opposit end next time. Very simple.

I just hatched my first time in egg cartons and I did like it. They didn't knock around the other eggs...only thing was some hit their heads on the heat element, but did not seem to any damage and a couple times I had to poke thru the vent hole with a straw and move a chick off an egg that was zipping. But for me it was a positive experience. I didn't have any eggs pip low, so it was good.

I just did a search and came up with some great results... it seems like it's pretty split between people that like it and those don't.

I was actually going to start a topic of my own with a question, but I'll just ask it here... hope you don't mind! I'm going to be setting about 36 eggs in my LG today or tomorrow - so 3 egg cartons if I choose to hatch that way. This will not leave much room on the screen for the chicks. Does this mean that they'll be sitting on top of the eggs? Should I not hatch in the cartons since I'll have so many eggs?

I like this method a lot as it is easy to turn! But I wouldn't Recommend using a paper egg carton. They just hold to much bacteria. So if you do only use the cart once. Plastic is a lot better.

I am intrigued, I read someone say here is is good for eggs with detached aircells from shipping. I tried to hatch my first ever batch of shipped eggs and NONE hatched

Many started to develope but I lost them along the way. I was opening the bator 3 times a day to turn the 18 eggs so after talking to the seller we think that may have had a lot to do with it. I am going to try again and hope for better results this time. So the big question... What exactly is the egg carton method and how is it done?
