Questions about Indian Runner Ducks

Thanks for the info....Townline advertises them as "Indian" Runners, BTW, why are they called runners, do they like run a lot or fast ?

You know how most ducks waddle? Not the runner, they're legs go straight foreward and back kinda like people. If you see them from only just above the legs they actually look like they are gliding, a real smooth and fast gait. That's why they are often used to train sheepherding dogs. They are so funny, they dart around first one direction, then another like they are very determined, all together like a group of choreographed dancers. It's like birds flying in a formation only they are doing it on the ground.

My males who I raised from day-olds will sometimes stand there while I walk up to them and let me pick them up. The hen is much more skittish, but still easier to catch than my other hens that were flock raised and I bought when they were four months old.

Thanks for the info....that is great!

I am hoping to get the Storey's Guide to Raising Ducks Book & I think there is a section on breeds. Maybe my other big Storeys book has ducks in it...hmmmm...will have to go look.

I think these little girls will be fun to have around.
