Questions About Nests

I just read a book that talked about making a nest for you ducks about two weeks before they are going to start laying.
What are your opinions on this? should I make one for my girls? or should I let them do it them selves?
I can see the advantages of making one, you know right where it is and hopefully if it is already provided the ducks will lay in it....
what do you think?

I don't think there will be any negatives to building them a nest, I think the worst thing that could happen is they don't use it. If you want to build them a nest you can put ceramic eggs or just eggs you buy at the store, or even golf balls in the nest to encourage them to lay their own eggs in it. They may not use it at all and make their own nests, you'll just have to wait and see.

What should I make it out of that would be the most appealing to ducks?

I use chunks from the compressed bales at Tractor Supply. It makes a nice soft, fluffy place to lay eggs.

Compressed hay bales, I use pieces of them to make nests.
