Hi there, new to chickens as of last year. I have 4 Silver Laced Wyandottes. 1 of which is very pretty and stands out and she knows it😂. My question is I don't have a lot of knowledge with showing but after seeing the couple that were being shown in the county fair, I feel my Alice may have been able to take a ribbon. I'll post a picture of her from awhile back this spring because she's been bred a little for a few people that wanted some fertile eggs from her. Any advice is much appreciated, whether its what makes her something I could show or what might make her not worthy of going to be shown etc. As I honestly haven't a clue as to what I might be getting into just for the fun of it. Thank you!

Are you wanting to show at an APA show, or county show through 4-H? For an APA show, her lacing isn’t quite right. Lacing is a hard trait to get perfect. However, through 4-H and at county shows, she might do just fine in a show.

It depends what kind of show it is.
In my area we have APA shows, 4H type shows and our completely unsanctioned county fair shows. All are different.
Our county fair shows do not require any testing and basically you just need a chicken, any chicken to be in it.
I've seen mixed breeds entered as breeds and breeds entered as the wrong breeds. They're basically a pretty bird show.

Thank you, I just thought she is a pretty bird and they aren't a really big event. Its 4h and then mostly appears to be open class entries etc. From local people in the county. So nothing too special. Just sounds like what you said, a pretty bird contest is my take on it.

Hi there and thanks, they do youth 4h and just seems to be locally put on within the county. Nothing like a professional apa show etc

Check into whether or not testing is required.
It should be at every show but sadly it isnt.
Also check into entry deadlines. Some shows require entry a month or more before the show.

I know very little. I do know that you want to take 6-12 months olds though. The old ones get calluses on their feet.
You can show old birds. They don’t get calluses on their feet.
The bird is not show quality, though she is a pretty bird.

Hmmm. I was told that by someone I knew that showed chickens. Why do you think they would have calluses? Maybe they have them in not good conditions?
