a town close to me (Wausau) just passed the OK to have 4 chickens in the city limits. the town is about
50,000 people,
4 hens, no roosters.
that slays me. hens are just as noisy as roosters,
and four hens are four times as noisy.

Interesting.... We're pretty rural here. I rent a place from a "rancheria" - basically a mini reservation for a conglomerate of displaced Native Americans (that's what they say anyway). I have no Native blood that I know of. Like I said I'm renting my place. Anyways totally beside the point. I'm lucky to have the space that I have. But like you said, I'm only allowed 4 hens. No roosters. I'm planning a move to Sacramento in 2 years when my youngest graduates high school. Obviously a completely different setting. I'm apprehensive about the rules down there....
