I knew my friends on BYC would have lots of good ideas!!!

No, each side gets to pick and choose the priorities from their allotment, and the allotments need to be fairly distributed. One might well be much closer to a 2nd cousin twice removed than to a first cousin.

Another choice is to send invitations to those who you actually want to attend, or expect to attend and send wedding announcements to the rest. An announcement lets people know, lets them know you care enough to send them one, and lets you off the hook about worrying about them showing up and ruining your budget.

I know that announcements are proper ettiquette, but the very idea of them makes me cringe--they are, in my opinion, a blatant request for a gift, without having the manners to actually invite the person to the wedding.

I don;t agree with this, either, everyone should get the same invitation. Select a less expensive invitation if necessary. The one exception I would make is when inviting a large GROUP of people. I have seen invitations to the entire congregation in the church bulletin. Or you could send a memo to the entire office. But for individual invitations, they should all be the same.

I know most men really wouldn't care but I'll havt to say i'm very excited about this wedding and I like to be involved!!!! ( that and I'm paying for it!!!!! lol)

WOW ... Johnathan, I sort of expected you were possibly a man BECAUSE of the picture and possibly had a military background. Not to mention, your name is stated on your info page.

I didn't think anything I said implied any gender ... SORRY

Nice to see your signature at the bottom.
My Dad (carrier military) must have told me that very same thing a million times ... " The worst words you could ever hear are 'I'm from the government and I'm here to help' "
It's funny, I don't know how many times I have passed it on in my life ... so far ... maybe I will reach a million times as well.
He also said that Communism, (in the interest of 'political correctness' -socialism) will take over the world some day by taking two steps forward and one step back, two steps forward and one step back.
And well ?

Invite those people that you and your fiancee would like to attend. Then of course you'll have to invite those that her parents and your parents would like to attend. After that, don't worry about the rest of the world. It's your day and I wish you the best.

My profile pic was different when I first started the thread and I have been meaning to change it. I'm not military but my daddy, both granddaddys and my uncle were all in the service so I guess it rubs off!!! hahahah
